Pattaya officials told fruit and shipping-supplies vendors encroaching on public land near the Naklua Post Office to vacate the premises as the city prepares to return the entire area to public next year.

Deputy Mayor Wutisak Rermkitkarn, Naklua Post Office Community President Jirawuth Amnuaychaisiri and Banglamung District municipal officers called on the Soi Sawangfah 5 fruit, banana, and supplies sellers June 5 to advise them of the formal complaint filed at the Dhamrongtham Center against their illegal occupation of the land.

They were told to demolish their kiosks and vacate by June 8. A check Monday indicated they did leave.

The complaint came after Pattaya City Hall and a larger group of vendors reached an agreement in February to demolish the post office-area market next year, as all the vendors there are illegally occupying public land that the community wants to convert to a sports field.

As part of that agreement, existing retailers were allowed to remain until February 2016, but no new vendors would be allowed. The three given eviction notices this month had refused to abide by the February agreement.
