Chonburi’s governor has ordered authorities to crackdown on criminal gangs illegally charging parking fees in public areas.
Khomsan Ekachai on April 18 said there were numerous complaints during the Songkran festival that groups were extorting the public for parking fees near the site of the Phutasihing and Songkran celebration at Chonburi City Hall and behind the Chonburi Public Health Garden.
The governor told the Muang District chief to assign volunteers, municipal officials, police and soldiers from the 14th Military Circle to patrol from the Chonburi Women’s Prison area to the garden.
Seven men were found directing vehicles to park in the areas concerned. They were all arrested and charged with illegally collecting parking fees and taken to Chonburi Police Station for questioning.
