Two men were arrested for allegedly operating illegal van-transport services from North Pattaya.
Payup Wangchroen, 34, and Boonma Thongloy, 52, were taken into custody and fined 2,000 and 1,000 baht, respectively, for offering unlicensed and private vehicles for public transport outside the Central Marina mall March 7.
The undercover operation carried out by soldiers, Banglamung District and Land Transport Department officials came after complaints from licensed taxi drivers that “black plate”, or privately registered vehicles, were being used for public transportation.
Both vans were impounded for three days.
Army officials said 10 local vendors were found to be paying 1,500 baht a month to a local organizers to park outside the North Pattaya shopping center to attract customers.
