An Udon Thani woman has been arrested for allegedly bilking her British ex-boyfriend out of 1.5 million baht for a bar in Koh Samui.

Pattaya Tourist Police took Prapai Kongsuwan, 39, into custody March 22, charging her with fraud based on an August 2012 arrest warrant.

The case dates back to September 2011, when Prapai allegedly convinced Christopher John Bird, whom she had been seeing for 10 years, to invest 1.5 million baht with her to open a beer bar on Lamai Beach in the Surat Thani province resort island.

Police held a press conference to announce the arrest of the lady fraudster.

The money was transferred into Parapai’s Pattaya bank account, but the bar never opened.

A year later he filed charges and the Issan woman has been on the run since.

Prapai told police the bar did, in fact, open, but trade was terrible and it soon went out of business. She said she never intended to swindle her British lover and claimed he only filed the police report once they broke up.
