Italian tourist arrested for public indecency in Pattaya after incident with reporter

PATTAYA, Thailand – A female reporter from a well-known television news channel (Channel 8) filed a complaint with an investigation officer at Pattaya Police Station, after an incident while sightseeing at the Laem Bali Hai Beach in South Pattaya on March 8.

The reporter, accompanied by friends, stopped to take photos by the rocks when a foreign man followed them. He then hid behind the rocks and proceeded to expose himself. The reporter quickly recorded the event on her phone as evidence and handed it over to the authorities.

Following the report, Pattaya Police Chief Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu instructed his team to collaborate with tourism police and Chonburi Immigration to track down the perpetrator. Using CCTV footage, the police identified and arrested the suspect, later identified as Carlo, a 68-year-old Italian national, on the same day.

While being recorded by the reporter, Carlo reportedly reacted by giving an obscene gesture and denied the allegations. He claimed that he was not masturbating but was instead suffering from a urinary condition that made it difficult for him to control his bladder. He stated that he merely needed to urinate and had no intention of engaging in any lewd behavior towards the reporter.

The police, however, proceeded with legal action and fined Carlo 3,000 Baht for public indecency.
