Beach vendor Santi Tienthong said he cleaned up some of the mess the day before, but gave up in the face of the sheer volume of waste.
Heavy rain and flooding washed the refuse into the sea but the tides brought it back to shore, further impacting Pattaya’s image as a world class beach destination.
Chatwarin Wongtong said people said she and other vendors spent the entire day cleaning, but failed to make a dent in the debris.
As the refuse being washed up includes wood and construction scrap, as well as the usual plastic and foam, vendors say it could pose a safety hazard to beach users and are demanding the Sanitation Department get on the ball.
