Pattaya workers sucked and scraped out drains on Jomtien Beach Road to improve flood drainage.
Deputy Mayor Pattana Boonsawat oversaw the Oct. 16 operation at Jomtien Soi 5. A suction truck sucked out most the mud and garbage blocking the underground tunnels, but workers had to clear the rest by hand.
Pattana said Soi 5 is the main natural drainage path for Jomtien Beach, but garbage and natural debris often get washed into sewer pipes, which are too small to accommodate all the water.
Long-term plans, he said, call for replacement of the pipes.
