A central Pattaya karaoke bar has been shut down for five years after the club ignored an earlier closing order.

Banglamung district authorities raided High Class Karaoke on Third Road around 1 a.m. March 22, two months after a similar raid discovered the club selling alcohol to minors.

The bar was ordered closed temporarily following that incident, but residents complained to the district office that High Class was still operating.

The bar has now been shuttered for five years, effectively putting it out of business.

Owner Pornacha Mahawong, 30, said he bought the bar after the first raid and was unaware the establishment had been ordered closed. He said he spent 1 million baht to buy the pub and now would lose that investment.

Authorities said the owner of the bar was irrelevant, as the shutdown order applies to the bar under its operating name and license. The owner cannot reopen any similar establishment at the same location for five years, or a bar with the same name anywhere else.
