Authorities are promising that extensive roadwork to upgrade Soi Khao Noi will be complete before the end of March.
Yasawa Construction Co. is heading the 2-million-baht project to install 80-centimenter-wide drainage pipe under 247 meters of the East Pattaya street. More than 30 new rubbish trappers also are being installed.
Once complete, the road will resurfaced.
The project began Dec. 26 and is scheduled to finish March 26. Banglamung District engineering chief Patarawut Samrit said work is ahead of schedule and certainly will be done by, or even before, then.
Residents in early January complained to the media they were fed up with shoddy street repairs that preceded the roadwork and wanted a proper resurfacing of chronically damaged Soi Khao Noi.
Locals say repeated flooding and abuse by heavy trucks has fueled an unending cycle of potholes and road damage followed by quick patch jobs by city hall. Workers continually just poured a thin layer of concrete over the holes, which quickly deteriorated, leaving the street full of death traps again, they complained.
The media reports grabbed the attention of Banglamung authorities, who appointed district Secretary Tanya Amornlertpaiwong to oversee the project and update residents.
