A sleeping receptionist and unlocked guest rooms aided a thief in his illicit endeavors at a hotel in South Pattaya.

Wimolrath Sirimontree, the 30-year-old receptionist at the unnamed hotel on Soi Yensabai told police Oct. 8 that she was sleeping on a sofa behind the counter when, according to security camera footage, an unknown man came in and took her Samsung smartphone from the counter where she left it.

He then went through the hotel and opened six unlocked doors of rooms occupied by guests. As people were sleeping, the burglar didn’t enter, instead he just escaped with the phone.

Police will use the CCTV footage to try and catch the thief.
