A Sattahip gas station has agreed to repair 14 diesel-powered vehicles that broke down after filling up with fuel mixed with water.

Heavy rain and a leaky drainage system were blamed for allowing storm runoff to enter an underground diesel fuel tank at the PTT station at Kasempol Junction in Sattahip June 21.

Mechanics work on stalled vehicles after they had filled up with petrol diluted by storm water that had seeped into the station’s holding tanks.

The issue first came to light on Facebook, where a disgruntled motorist posted photos of 10 vehicles disabled near the station. By the time the media arrived, there were 14 cars and pickup trucks idled and orange cones blocking off the tank to prevent more disaster.

Driver Prayad Phothaisong, 40, said he got less than two kilometers from the station when his engine started knocking and spewing white smoke before cutting out.

PTT staffers said the station only recently had its soft opening and was not fully operational. However, the company would repair and clean the fuel tanks and engines of all the affected vehicles and change their oil filters free.
