Long-running motorway flood problem nears end?

Paying tolls on Highway 7 is bad enough. It’s worse when you have to drive through a flood to do it.

Sewage pipes near the future toll booth in Nongprue simply have been too small to handle the runoff from heavy storms like last month’s Vamco. Cars can even get stuck on the busy highway.

Nongprue Sub-district began plans to replace the lines with 1.2-meter-wide piping. But construction has been going on for four years and still is not complete.

As a result, a big amount of water from the east can’t flow into a cache basin or a drainage canal to the sea.

The 14th Military Circle and police from Nongprue have now taken over the project and called residents to air their grievances.

At the meeting, Mayor Mai Chaiyanit vowed to restart work and have it finished by the end of the month. The new system will not only handle flood runoff, but take sewage from residences as well.
