Prawit Kitfaruwankul has been arrested for grand theft auto as well as theft of eight car batteries.

A lovesick car thief who planned to drive a stolen Nissan to see his Issan girlfriend was busted when police followed the car’s GPS tracker to Najomtien.

Prawit Kitfaruwankul, 44, was captured at his house in a government public housing development in Najomtien Sub-district Aug. 29. The Nissan March was recovered along with eight car batteries.

Prawit confessed he stole the car from the Wan-San automotive garage on Soi Khao Talo Aug. 28 after staking it out for weeks.

He said he took the batteries to sell for cash, but took the car so he could drive to Ubon Ratchathani to see his girlfriend.

Officers showed up at his house before he could go, however, as they easily tracked the car via its GPS-enabled anti-theft device.
