A city refuse collector lost his leg after an out of control vehicle crossed a road divide and struck the back of the garbage truck he was working from at the time.
Thanong Sangthong, 36, was rushed to hospital following the Sept. 26 accident at Pattanakarn Road in Nongprue, Pattaya. His co-worker, Manote Thongkum, 42, said the pair had been emptying garbage bins into the back of the truck when a black Mazda crossed from the opposite side of the road and collided with the rear end of their refuse vehicle. Manote was stood to the side of the truck at the time of the impact and escaped unhurt but his colleague was not so fortunate.
The force of the collision pushed Thanong underneath the truck and his left leg was severed. A rescue team of the Sawangboriboon Foundation rushed to the scene and administered emergency first aid before the victim was sent to Queen Savang Vadhana Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the Mazda, Penpor Pratee, 29, was interviewed by police officers at the scene before she was taken to Nongprue Police Station for further questioning and possible prosecution.
