Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome has been selected to head the award selection committee for the Sports Writers Association of Thailand. The position is for a two year term, from now until 2014.

Association President Sewadol Chaowalitpreecha appointed Itthiphol at a Dec. 26 ceremony, giving the mayor a gift basket for the New Year and detailing plans for an Outstanding Sportsman’s Day to be held this spring.

The mayor said he was honored to head the committee administrating the outstanding sportsman award, which will allow him to announce the winner along with Dr. Bun Wanasin, managing director of Thonburi Hospital Group. The committee also is comprised of 30 radio and newspaper sports reporters.

Two men and one woman will receive the award either in April or May in Bangkok. Eighteen others will receive smaller prizes.

Sewadol said Itthiphol, despite not being a sports writer, was chosen because “the entire Kunplome family are sportsmen who have played parts in building the foundation, development and push for community sports.”
