More than 100 city officials and area students carried out food and cosmetics-quality tests at Lan Po Market in a “Mini FDA” project.
Pattaya City Hall and Banglamung Hospital organized the inspection and training session with the Thailand Food and Drug Administration to both check hygienic standards at the popular market, and educate youths and school officials on how to teach others about cleanliness in food preparation.
Technical officer Bupha Songsakulchai and hospital pharmacists worked with students from Tantrarak School, Baan Rodfai School, Pattaya School No. 11, and Pattaya Technical College in the Jan. 13 exercise.

Tests for borax, formalin, salicylic acid, bleach, bacteria and other contaminant were performed.
Students were shown how to carry out such tests and encouraged to spread the knowledge to others through campaigns, leaflet distribution and seminars.
In addition, the Thai FDA has worked with local schools to improve hygienic conditions in school meal preparation.
