A minivan driver narrowly escaped a fiery death after crashing his vehicle into a power pole, sending high-voltage lines showering down on him.
Mana Pinopong, 58, was unhurt in the July 10 accident near Huay Yai Temple. He scrambled out of his Toyota Commuter just as it caught fire.
He told police it was raining heavily before the crash and he could barely see. He ended up driving off the road and slamming into the utility pole, causing 200 meters of wires to drop on the van, setting it ablaze.
He was brought to the police station for further investigation and a breathalyzer test.
