The abbot of Tungrad Temple died after a pickup truck he was riding it was hit by another vehicle while making a U-turn in Pattaya.
Phra Atikarnwaipoj Suthisai, 70, died of injuries sustained in the Jan. 21 on Sukhumvit Road near Jittapawan College after being treated at Banglamung Hospital.
Also hurt in the crash was the driver of the Isuzu pickup, Prasert Mangkalasiri, 69, who had been taking the monk for a merit-making ceremony at the Buddhist college.
After careening off a pickup truck in an accident that killed a monk, the Suzuki Ertlga G-X driven by Apaporn Boonyaem crashed into the Jittapawan College wall.
Stopped at a U-turn, the truck was rammed and thrown into the traffic island after being hit by a Suzuki Ertlga G-X driven by Apaporn Boonyaem, 34. She was rescued from her crushed vehicle, which careened off the Isuzu and into a wall at the college, and transported to Banglamung Hospital.
Police were investigating the accident before deciding whether to file charges against Apaporn for reckless driving resulting in death.
