Two monks were arrested and disrobed after failing a drug test in Pattaya.
Police stopped Sontaya Homhuan, 54, and Sombat Menthong, 70, driving through a checkpoint on South Road Jan. 3. Both acted nervous and refused to provide ordination documents or the name of the temple they were with. Thus police administered urine tests.
Both failed and were taken into custody, Further tests were needed to determine what drug they were using.
Under questioning, the monks said they were from Ang Thong and had come to “run errands” in Pattaya.
The two were sent to the Banglamung dean of monks to be disrobed before being prosecuted.
