Pattaya officials continue to add events to their proposed 10-day celebration of HM the King’s 84th birthday.
Deputy Mayor Wattana Chantanawaranon presided over the second planning meeting Oct. 13 for the Dec. 1-10 festivities.
He said the celebration will begin Dec. 1 with an ordination for 85 monks to mark the start of the King’s 85th year Dec. 5. A “walk-run” will be held on Dec. 5 with a ceremony later that night at Bali Hai Pier. Also slated was a parade on Dec. 5.

The events add to a slate of activities outlined at the first planning meeting in June. At that time, Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said nine events would be held in early December, including a commemorative coin contest, an exhibit called “99 Photographs of the Rama IX Period,” a 48-hour English-language lesson, the 4th “World for Friendship and Peace” meeting, a digital photography training workshop, a city photo competition, and a “warm family” project. The final two would be a “good fathers” project and a “language triathlon.”
