An inebriated Srakaew man who claimed he’d shot dead and chopped up a person ended up in the drunk tank when Sattahip police confirmed no one had been killed.
The incident began with a mystery call to police at 5:45 a.m. Sept. 22, during which the supposed shooter told police where he was and said he wanted to turn himself in.
Police found the residence and an intoxicated Udom Chanta, 54, who seemed surprisingly happy to see them. Having consumed more than a few beers, Udom repeatedly mumbled he’d killed someone, scaring other building residents.
Allegedly in a drunken stupor, Udom Chanta (seated) told police he had murdered someone and wanted to turn himself in.
The apartment manager, however, told police the story was a lie and no one had been killed or even injured. Udom, he said, had checked in a few days ago and was known to enjoy a few beverages.
Police took Udom to the station and tested him for drugs. He was found drug-free and told officers he had had four bottles of beer.
He repeated a story that there had been a shooting in the building and that he had decided to join in. He then “confessed” that he was the shooter and had dismembered the body to hide it. He had called police for his own safety, fearing his victim’s kin would come after him.
Police confirmed the only victim in this case was Udom’s sobriety and tossed him in the cells overnight until he sobered up or a relative bailed him out.
