The Naval Rating School celebrated its 88th anniversary with a merit-making ceremony at the Sattahip academy.
Capt. Wirat Somjit opened the April 28 festivities, which saw 10 monks from 10 temples led by Sattahip dean of monks Tatsaneeyakunakorn invited to pray and give blessings.
Vice Adm. Chorchat Gra-tes, director-general of naval education, and District Chief Noraset Sritapatso were among the many to present flower baskets.
The naval officers’ academy under the Naval Education Department was founded on July 13, 1929 during the territorial dispute between France and then-Siam.
The establishment of the officers’ school followed the founding of the seamen’s academy in 1906. The original curriculum included weapons, torpedoes, mechanics and basic seamanship.
