The Royal Thai Navy began stepping up efforts over the New Year’s holiday to prevent foreign fishing boats from entering Thai waters by dispatching more patrol boats to border regions.
Vice Adm. Rangsalit Sattayakul handed out gifts to raise morale and dispatched the vessels from Sattahip Naval Base Dec. 30.
The three vessels will patrol until March 31. A second unit will be dispatched in October.

Rangsalit said that the first unit will be responsible for Chantaburi and Trat. They will guard borders, preventing intruders and fishing boats. This inspection will also be effective in preventing human trafficking, drugs and other crimes, he said.
