Trainers at the Chumphon Naval Rating School in Sattahip are keeping a closer eye on cadets this hot season, ensuring the sailors-to-be don’t suffer heat stroke during their month-long boot camp.

School Director Capt. Wirath Somjit said weather approaching or exceeding 40 degrees Celsius poses an extra challenge to conscripts in training to join the Marine Corps, Air and Coastal Defense Command, and Battle Squadron.

Trained medics are on standby to handle any possible heat related health issues during outdoor military training in the midst of Thailand’s current heat wave.

The first-year cadets spend much of their training outdoors, so instructors have been told to keep an eye out for even mild signs of exhaustion, as they can quickly lead to serious heat stroke, where the body’s temperature exceeds 40 C.

Wirath reported that all the cadets were handling the heat well and were being told to drink plenty of water, and to rest when something feels wrong. Medics are kept on standby during exercises, he added.
