The navy seized a tanker loading 240,000 liters of illegal gasoline in the Gulf of Thailand
Vice Adm. Banjob Poedaeng, commander of the First Naval Area Command’s Maritime Law Enforcement Operations Center Coordinated with the Excise Office Region 2 to intercept the Chor Tarasamuth 2, a 150-ton steel tanker moored 17 nautical miles from Pukbie Pier in Phetchaburi.
On board, officials found six Thai crewmen with no employment contract and no registration for the ship or documents verifying tax payments for the gasoline. The crew was arrested and the ship taken to Sattahip Naval Base.
Tanker boat master Chainarong Meenoon, 50, confessed the tanker was taking the gas to a customer at Mahachai Pier in Samut Sakhon.
Banjob said the gas was valued at 6 million baht and the government would have lost 1.6 million baht in tax revenue.
