New Pattaya legal chief appointed to tackle encroachment

The non-elected transformation of Pattaya City Hall continued with acting Mayor Chanatpong Sriviset appointing Sretapol Boonsawat head of the city Legal Department.

Chanatpong, the city’s military-appointed permanent secretary, said the new legal director’s job will focus main on advising and pursuing cases involving encroachment on public property, a hot button issue of the National Council for Peace and Order.

Sretapol said he expected to retain his position for up to two years and will advise the acting mayor, appointed city council and law enforcement on properties, prosecution, flood issues, street hawkers, local vendors and especially businesses that are eating up public land.

He said Chonburi’s governor has issued orders to strictly enforce rules and organization of the beaches and ensure people aren’t selling things illegally, especially illegal aliens.
