Pattaya is adding new water pumps at the intersection of Soi Nong Yai and Sukhumvit Soi 33 to avoid the flooding that plagued the area last year.
Three spots on Sukhumvit Road are especially prone to flooding: in front of Pattaya School No. 4, at Sukhumvit Soi 45, and in front of the Highway Police headquarters.
The new pumping station will drain water from the three low spots into the Sua Paew Canal, which flows into the sea in Naklua.
The 5.3 million baht project calls for pipes to be laid from the school to the station.
Flooding in the Soi Nong Yai area was at times brutal last year, a problem the city is attempting to fix by installing a new pumping station.
