Pattaya motorists will soon have a faster route to Sattahip when new traffic lights at Sukhumvit Road and Jomtien Second Road go live.

Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome and his deputies inspected the ongoing installation of new signals at the Jomtien Beach intersection that, for the first time, will allow drivers to turn right to head toward Sattahip.

Currently, motorists must turn left and use a U-turn, or queue at the light on Soi Chaiyapruek at Sukhumvit Road, leading to massive congestion, as cars often must wait through three or four red-green cycles to turn.

Sonthaya said the new lights should be active in September. When they are, it will reduce traffic on Soi Chaiyapruek and provide more convenience for motorists, he said.

Somsak Suwanthongkhao, president of the Chaiyapruek Community, thanked the mayor for the new lights, saying it will improve the quality of life for Jomtien residents plagued with traffic.
