Fire devastated a Chinese-owned mattress factory in Sattahip, causing more than 300-million-baht damage. No one was injured.
Twenty fire trucks responded to the Modern Latax (Thailand) Co. plant in Moo 5 village of Najomtien Sub-district March 18 to find the facility fully engulfed. Parts of the factory collapsed during the blaze that was fueled by latex plastic used in production of the mattresses aimed at Chinese tourists to bring home.
The factory employed 200 people, many of whom were in the plant when fire broke out about 10:30 p.m. Initial reports stated all escaped without injury.
Investigators offered no explanation for the cause of the fire, which was estimated to have caused more than 300 million baht in damage.
