Residents of North Pattaya’s Nong Or neighborhood now have their own community office, which will offer public health services, exercise classes and more.

Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, former Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome and former MP Poramet Ngampichet cut the ribbon on the new office across from the Hollywood pub Dec. 20. Pravej Thammawaro, abbot of Nong Or Temple, led eight other monks in performing a religious ceremony to bless the office.

The Nong Or Community office will be headed by Panom Rienpreecha and supported by a council of 15, with four advisors. The 120,000 baht facility took a year to build.

Phanom said the office is using water and power donated by local residents until it is registered with the Banglamung District Office. Later, he said, it will be used as a local public health office and a place to hold aerobics classes every evening.

The Pattaya Health Security Fund had also approved a 140,000 budget for it to provide diabetes and blood pressure screenings. The service began the same day and veterinarians provided free vaccinations for dogs and cats.

Itthiphol said that the city is trying to support all 41 communities in Pattaya with their own offices that provide public health, social welfare, occupational support, and basic public utilities.
