Nong Plalai residents volunteered to clear the Nong Pladuk weir of water hyacinth when the plants clogged drainage pipes after heavy rain.
The upper end of the waterway from SR Mountain to the weir flooded, inundating nearby pineapple and lime groves.
Mayor Pinyo Homklain joined volunteers and Engineering Department workers Nov. 20 to cut the hyacinth, tie rope around plants inside the weir and pull them out to be disposed of. While there, the crew also cleaned the small dam.
