Residents in Nong Plalai’s Moo 3 village said drains clogged with sand are causing their neighborhood to flood.
Sub-district Councilman Chaloem Khetjae led the media on an inspection following complaints about a recent construction project from Moo 3 to the Mapbon Community that generated an excess of sand.
Even though the contractors were hired for 4.8 million baht to replace drain covers and resurface the road to improve flooding, the workers carelessly flushed sand into the very same sewers, making matters worse.
Resident Somdej Boontuam said the work may look better, but making the road five centimeters higher created more problems because the sewer grates weren’t raised and now sand, garbage and other debris funnels into them.
Nong Plalai engineers promised to use high-pressure hoses to clear the drains, but never showed up. So residents rallied and summoned local administrators to see the problems for themselves.
