Nong Plalai is asking residents to donate their old mobile phones to raise money to buy children’s books.
Nong Pinyo Homklan led a parade of sub-district officials at the Kednoi Market Dec. 14, asking people to give away their old, unused phones.
Pinyo said he hopes to collect 200 old handsets, which then will be sold to purchase schoolbooks at preschools. The fundraiser runs through Dec. 31.
The project, sponsored by Nanmeebooks Co., will accept any phone, regardless of brand, model or working condition. The hope is to raise enough money to purchase books for 1,000 children.
People wanting to donate can visit the Nong Plalai Sub-district offices.
