A Nongprue woman struggling to take care of nine children got a helping hand from the sub-district and two charities, which gave her 5,000 baht and free food.
Mayor Mai Chaiyanit and representatives from the YWCA Bangkok-Pattaya Center Nongprue and Women’s Development Group brought cash, rice, dried food and other necessities to La-ong Sungthong Nov. 9.
She said she is caring for nine kids and they need money for school.
The woman said she had tried to make ends meet by taking whatever work she can get, but her income is unstable. She also rented a small plot of land to grow vegetables, for both her family and to sell, but her crops were destroyed by recent flooding.
La-ong said she eventually resorted to borrowing from neighbors, but her debts were building.
Pathama Chanchiew, director of Nongprue’s Social Security Division, said the local government had been alerted to La-ong’s plight and put together funds and supplies to give her some temporary relief.
