Soldiers, police and prison inmates cleaned the Nongprue Canal for three days to improve water quality in honor of HM the King’s birthday.

Banglamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong and Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit kicked off the July 27-29 effort with inmates and staff from the Pattaya Remand Prison, Nongprue police and civil defense volunteers, army soldiers and district employees.

The group pulled weeds, scooped out hyacinth and cleaned the riverbank. Heavy machinery was brought into to dredge the 250-meter waterway and clear obstructions.

Organizers said the event was aimed at improving water quality and flood mitigation as well as pay homage to HM the King for his July 28 birthday.
