Organizers said society is changing and more seniors have to take care of themselves, rather than rely on family. Thus exercise, nutrition and medical knowledge is more important than ever.

Nongprue Mayor Mai Chaiyanit said the sub-district also is instituting financial aid for seniors to cover daily and medical expenses. The municipality also has organized free public yoga and aerobics classes.

Workers from the Nongprue Public Health Department also are visiting local communities and hosting campaigns to encourage elderly people and youngsters alike to eat healthy food.

Finally, to keep older residents active, programs are being offered to teach them how to make handcrafts, soap, cleaning liquid, food, sweets and others.
