Nongprue marked World Environment Day by planting trees around the sub-district.
Deputy Mayor Niyom Thiengtham, municipal officials and local residents joined the “one tree per family” event June 6, a day after the United Nations’ environment day.
Tree planters began work near the Pattaya Bus Station, moved to Soi Nernplabwan and continued through the surrounding area.
More than 50 residents joined in planting tongurai, cassia, and banana trees. Such trees can be planted throughout the year, grow with little maintenance, and help combat global warming.

World Environment Day was organized to remind people that the globe is overheating, causing unexpected tropical storms and melting the polar ice caps.
Just one tree planted per home can make a change to the world and that’s why the campaign was held to help reduce global warming, organizers said.
