Nongprue officials practiced their response to a chemical spill at a lifelike drill on Highway 331.
Chonburi Deputy Gov. Chawalit Saeng-Uthai oversaw the exercise by the sub-district’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department May 15 near the Khao Maikaew Market.

The drill simulated two tanker trucks colliding, causing a spill. The practice called for 35 people to be hurt and the evacuation of 50 residents nearby.

After the evacuation, participants contacted the Pollution Control Department to conduct an investigation and ensure the area was safe allowing people to return.

Officials said Highway 331 was chosen as the site for the drill as it is a common route for petroleum and chemical plants from Rayong.
