Nongprue is asking sub-district residents to adjust their lifestyles in order to protect the environment.

Mayor Mai Chaiyanit presided over an Aug. 28 recycling-focused workshop for public servants, community leaders, health workers and the public.

Thraipope Boonchuay, a lecturer from Bangkok’s Special Affairs Division, spoke about how to improve the local environment by doing simple things on a daily basis, such as recycling.

Recycling is most important as a variety of materials that are commonly disposed can be reused. It is also important that city management should indicate and instruct residents to dispose of their waste properly. There is also a campaign going on to reduce the usage of foam and plastic bags, particularly in factories and food products.

By recycling properly, any community would see a change within a week, he said. Through the collaboration of government and private sectors, the streets and neighborhoods can be kept clean and tidy and the place will remain green.

Nongprue is pushing residents hard on recycling as it battles trash collection staffing and budget shortages.
