Nongprue is patting itself on the back for its efforts to dredge canals and unplug drains, claiming areas under its jurisdiction suffered no major flooding after a Sept. 24 storm.
Sanitation Department chief Bekchai Nilapanan said the two hours of rain did result in some backup, but the standing water was only a result of pipes being too small to accommodate all the water, not due to blockages.
He said residents reported no complaints and the water drained quickly.
Having said that, the sub-district acknowledged more work needs to be done, in particular regarding the San Ta Yai public aqueduct in on Soi Mabyailia, which takes water from Marb Tato, Puyai Kui Market and Pattanakarn Road.
Currently there are two closed, parallel pipes about 1.5 meters in diameter. Next year, those will be replaced with an open culvert 3.5 meters wide and four meters deep.
Several other projects also are planned for 2019 to increase the size of existing drainage pipes so that water doesn’t pool waiting to go into the drains.
