Although never the most glamorous of drinking holes, Pattaya’s beer bars are using the low season to spruce up for the next high season.
A string of outdoor bars along North Road just before the Dolphin Roundabout were seen July 6 clearing out the mess and damage caused by rainstorms and upgrading their establishments.
Vendors have dug up the footpaths and re-laid the bricks. They also added more soil to low points and deep holes caused by erosion, and got rid of the broken bits as well.

Some vendors on the same block also got rid of older, rusty steel roof structures to make the area look more attractive. The bar vendors helped each other tidy up wires and dispose of rubbish to support the construction workers.
“We will normally help each other clear out the mess every year, especially on the footpaths,” said one barman. “We always start to clear things out during the beginning of the rainy season when there are not too many tourists and we complete our upgrades before high season.”
