Top government and police officials stepped-up marine safety for Songkran and the weeks after.
Chonburi Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai joined Pattaya and Banglamung administrators, police, Marine Department and hospital representatives at Bali Hai Pier April 12 for the campaign.
Running from April 12-28, the campaign stresses life jacket use by all passengers, inspections of boats and equipment and placing patrol boats and emergency services on standby.
Pakarathorn said safety is stressed every day of the year but extra vigilance is needed during extremely high traffic periods like Songkran.
