The Office of the Narcotics Control Board is planning new regulations to tackle drug-smuggling at the Thai-Cambodian border.

ONCB Deputy Secretary Sukhum Opasniputh led the Aug. 23 meeting at the A-One Royal Cruise Hotel with agencies from both countries to discuss trafficking in eight border provinces, including Chantaburi, Trat and Srakaew.

The region is served by four permanent routes and eight temporary routes. That has boosted tourism, officials said, but also aided drug smugglers. Eradicating the problem requires cooperation from both sides and the Border Liaison Office, they said.

The meeting was aimed at developing collaboration from agencies working in Thai-Cambodian border regions to prevent transport of drugs across borders and a meeting to exchange news, review operations to increase quality of operations.
