Pattaya – Pattaya has banned public-transport vans from parking at Bali Hai Pier and is talking to baht bus operators about changes affecting them.

Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh chaired a July 22 meeting aimed at ending the traffic chaos that has overwhelmed the pier, with drivers of various public-transport services literally fighting over customers.

City workers have painted new lines marking drop-off zones and now patrol the pier to prevent minivans from parking there.

The Pattaya Baht Bus Co-operative, meanwhile, was informed of changes to routes and told to ensure that drivers follow the rules at the pier.

Ronakit said those involved in publicized brawls will be brought in and made to sign an agreement covering proper behavior.
