BANGKOK, Thailand –The Meteorological Department has reported that upper Thailand will experience thunderstorms initially, followed by cooler weather with strong winds. Temperatures are expected to drop by 1-3°C.
The department forecasts that a high-pressure system or relatively strong cold air mass from China has extended over upper Thailand and the South China Sea. This weather pattern will cause rain in upper Thailand at first, then cooler conditions with strong winds. Temperatures in mountainous areas will be cold to very cold, while mountaintop regions will experience freezing conditions. Residents are advised to take care of their health due to changing weather.
In the South, the strong northeast monsoon covers the Gulf of Thailand and southern regions. A low-pressure system in southern Thailand and Malaysia is expected to move into the Andaman Sea, resulting in increased rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas. Residents in affected regions should beware of flash floods and water runoff, especially in low-lying areas and near waterways.
The Gulf of Thailand will experience strong winds and waves, with heights of 2-3 meters and over 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The Andaman Sea will see waves around 1 meter high, with waves over 2 meters in stormy areas. Mariners in both regions are urged to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm zones. Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand are advised to stay ashore.
As for air quality, the accumulation of dust and haze in upper Thailand is expected to decrease due to stronger winds and improved ventilation.
