Fireworks and flying lanterns are banned for this weekend’s Loy Krathong holiday with police checking the city for illicit sales.
The city asked for cooperation from manufacturers, collectors, sellers, and fans of fireworks and floating lanterns to not light pyrotechnics.
The aim is to prevent brush fires and property damage caused by flame-carrying lanterns falling on brush, and protect the safety of holiday revelers.
Those caught selling or using the banned items can face up to 3 years imprisonment and fines of up to 60,000 baht.
Pattaya’s main Loy Krathong event will be held on the beach at Central Road Oct. 31 with arts and culture shows, krathong contest and concerts.
