City officials began fluffing the pillows and ironing the sheets as they got ready for the annual Pattaya Bed Race.

Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh chaired the Jan. 11 preparation meeting with the Rotary Club of Pattaya, Father Ray Foundation, Central Festival Pattaya Beach, and police for the Jan. 31 charity fundraiser.

The quirky event, now in its eighth year, will see go-carts and rolling beds raced down Beach Road from Central Festival to Walking Street. Proceeds from entry fees paid by bars, hotels and other businesses joining the race will go to charity.

Pattaya officials gathered to prepare for the January 31 running of the Pattaya Bed Race.

Each bed-race team has four people and the push carts run form the outrageous to the seemingly impossible.

Lower Beach Road will be closed from 4pm when a parade takes place and the competition begins at 5:20 p.m., running through 7 p.m.
