Mayoral advisor Nikom Sangkaew straddles the steel barrier welded across the narrow opening blocking bikers from taking the shortcut through people’s homes.

Jomtien Beach residents got city hall to block off a route through a housing complex used by speeding motorcycles.

Deputy Mayor Pattana Boonsawat met March 7 with residents at the Thepprasit housing project who were upset the government development opened an entrance to the village that ran between buildings. The route quickly became a shortcut for motorbikes who sped through, posing a danger to pedestrians.

The residents implored the city to block the entrance with a steel pole so that only pedestrians could use the route.

Pattana agreed and dispatched city engineers to construct the barrier.
