The world is desperately struggling to protect humanity from the scourge of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic by pleading with people to wear face masks, asking them to wash their hands often, practice physical distancing and not to gather in public places.

Now with vaccines slowly creeping out of the multi-billion-dollar pharmaceutical companies, there seems to be some hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that we hope to see, if not the end, but at least some relief from the deadly threat.

Meanwhile, devout Buddhists all over the world have turned to prayer and meditation to plead with all that is sacred to protect humanity from the coronavirus pandemic and to rid the world of this scourge.

To this end, the National Office of Buddhism directed all temples in Thailand to hold religious chanting ceremonies every evening until the threat of coronavirus infection subsides.

In Pattaya, Chief Abbot Phrarajasarn Sophon of Wat Chai Mongkol Royal Temple presided over the religious ceremony on May 11, to bless, protect and rid the Thai nation of the deadly coronavirus.

The devout Pattaya congregation of Pattaya were represented by Surat Mekawarakul, warden of the temple in the sacred rituals.

Monks, novices and the devout sitting a safe distance from each other chanted prayers from the holy scriptures to give hope and moral support to all humanity.
