Pattaya has bought an “insurance policy” to obtain extra protection against water shortages caused by the ongoing drought, buying reserve water from Sattahip District.
Banglamung District Chief Chakorn Kanjawattana July 24 addressed the plummeting water level in the Mabprachan Reservoir, urging residents “not to worry” because numerous other sources of water are available to the city.

He said Mabprachan Lake now has about 3 million cubic meters of water left and normal backup sources, the Bang Pra and Nongkoh reservoirs, have stopped supplying Pattaya because they must be reserved for Chonburi’s Muang District.
“Not to worry,” Chakorn said. “Mabprachan Lake is connected to the Nong Plalai, Doksrai and Prasae reservoirs.”
He said the Royal Irrigation Department recently signed an agreement with Prasae reservoir to bring 40 million cubic meters of water to Mabprachan, which will last until the end of July if no rain falls.
Heavy rain hit the Pattaya area July 24-25.
